What was the project?

Jagex was my first role in gaming and kicked off a fantastic career that I began as the ‘2D Guy’ as Jagex was growing organically at such a rate that it didn’t have formal roles or titles for what I was tasked with doing.

Initially, I began work on the meta content for the MMORPG Runescape, upkeep on the website, banner ads, and promotional content, but my passion and drive took me into collaborations with other team members where we could make upper management aware of skillsets and new ideas that they were unaware of. Before long my responsibilities meant creating a completely new UI for Runescape, leading a team of artists to add a new system of visual rewards, and creating a new FTUE as the data we had showed that very few players were completing the tutorial due to a lack of interest and complicated instructions before they ever made it into the main game.

Out of the many high points of my time with Jagex I’m most proud of successfully pitching the casual games department that I moved on to leading and creating a fantastic library of games that I wish I could still play today. Sadly the games were built on an in-house java engine that has long since become outdated.
