Pixel Art

Pixel art is at the heart of my love of gaming and game creation. It was among the first areas of professional game development that began my career and I take all opportunities to refresh my pixel skills with new, modern projects whenever possible!

What was the project?

The project above, Spy Ops, used pixel art sprites, scenery, and VFX to help support its retro style of play, look, and feel. While the promo work uses vector art to create a clean style for the flat-colored characters, it was an exciting challenge to maintain that feel through to the sprites and game art.

Below are screenshots from a point-and-click adventure, Jason The Greek, that required everything from walking and idle animations to pulling tridents from statues and Star Trek-inspired attack moves! The pixel styles were kept to a very minimal look for the in-game work, while a more detailed 16-bit level was used for the UI pop-ups for chat animations and reactions, all of which was my responsibility as the only artist on the title.
