Iconography

One of the most potentially challenging yet rewarding parts of any UI brief are its icons. The parts of the GUI that the players look for and need to understand the message of in the blink of an eye – iconography is where UI artists can really shine.

What was the project?

The projects are many and varied, but the brief is often the same – we need to convey as much information in as small an area as possible, ideally in a way that is internationally understood so that we can save on explanation and translation!

Icon design is an area that needs to continue the brand design of its title. Each icon set that I’ve designed has been unique, carrying the style criteria as well as the language of the game plus, occasionally, it’s humour.

The icons I have created range from silhouettes to colour bases to mini illustrations and scenes of the actions players can look forward to, once they earn the option!

My role

  • Develop style guides and breakdowns for the icon style sheets
  • Research and present style ideas for potential branding
  • Sketch, refine, and produce icons that follow the title’s look and feel
  • Communicate clear direction through minimal detail
