What was the project?
A personal project that started as an idea where my children and I could build something creatively together while in lockdown due to The Pandemic and became something far bigger than we could ever have hoped.
Inspired by the kinds of games my brothers and I would play as kids, plus my love of Monty Python, Catapult Kingdoms (later to become Feud) was born to take into account my boy’s love of building and destroying what the other had built…
Development took on many forms, from the main mechanics and balancing the ease of building vs. the challenge of breaking down your opponent’s buildings, to the overall look and feel of the game from something we played at home to a viable product.
Initially, I used social media to share and acquire feedback and then took my prototypes to games nights here in Berlin and to events to pitch to publishers. Once I had found a publisher that I felt shared my ideals of where the game should go, we pooled our ideas and experience to create
Our initial Kickstarter campaign went so well that we smashed through all of our stretch goals in the first 24 hours and so I was up till 2 am on the first night designing new weapons to use in the expansions!
Each year we take the game to Essen Spiel in West Germany and the days spent watching the many people play the game and the joy it brings them is absolutely mind-blowing.
